Bespoke Mediterranean Yacht Charters

Sophisticated Voyages Across the Mediterranean Since 1949

Ancient Horizons & Elite Shores A Journey Through the Heart of the Mediterranean

Experience the world’s most iconic yachting destination, offering a sophisticated duality that no other coastline can match. From the sun-drenched glamour of the French Riviera and Italian hotspots like Capri, to the ancient ruins, vibrant oriental markets in Turkey and sapphire silence of the Greek Isles, this region is a haven of diverse cultures and coastal elegance.

While a Mediterranean voyage is often defined by its chic shoreside experiences, Michelin-starred dining, high-fashion boutiques, and historic walled cities, it is equally a sanctuary for those seeking pure tranquility. Beyond the bustling marinas lie hidden gems like the Maddalena Archipelago in Sardinia, where granite sculptures meet crystalline lagoons, and the pristine, uninhabited national parks of Croatia.

Whether you are seeking the rugged, vertical beauty of the Amalfi Coast or the serene, pine-scented coves of the Balearics, Nicholson Yacht Charters’ has decades of European expertise ensuring a seamless transition into the “Med” lifestyle. We bridge the gap between the world’s most exclusive social scenes and the quietest, most secluded anchorages, crafting a bespoke journey that reflects your unique vision of luxury.

Cruising destinations in The Mediterranean

When chartering a yacht in The Mediterranean it is customary to divide the destinations into three main areas –

West Med, East Med and The Adriatic Sea.

Let us explore these areas further.

The Western Mediterranean

The Western Mediterranean – West Med, includes the coastlines of Spain, France, Malta, the Italian west coast and sometimes also includes The Adriatic.

For more information of the Western Mediterranean visit our West Med yacht charter destination page.

East Mediterranean

“East Med” a wonderful charter destination, loved by so many. Cruise the Greek and Turkish coastlines on board a privately chartered yacht to maximise your holiday experience in comfortable luxury. Steeped in history, culture and lushious nature the eastern Mediterranean is a dream vacation spot.

Choosing Your Mediterranean Charter Yacht

Selecting the right vessel for a Mediterranean summer requires a different lens than a Caribbean winter escape. Whether you are navigating the chic beach clubs of the Côte d’Azur or the narrow, historic passages of the Dalmatian Coast, your yacht is your private vantage point to the best of Europe.

The Mediterranean Yachting Season

Peak Season (July & August): The height of the social calendar. Expect warm waters, vibrant nightlife, and high demand for berths in iconic ports like Saint-Tropez or Ibiza. Make sure to book early to avoid disappointment.

Shoulder Season (May, June & September): Often considered the “Connoisseur’s Choice.” The weather is perfect for exploring ancient ruins on foot, the ports, restaurants and facilities are open but are less crowded, and the landscapes are lush and green.

Choosing Your Vessel Type

Luxury Motor Yachts: The gold standard for the West Med, these vessels are the ultimate choice for navigating the glittering coastlines of France, Italy, and Spain. Motor yachts provide the speed and range to hop seamlessly between coastal hotspots, ensuring you can wake up in St. Tropez and enjoy a sunset dinner in Portofino. Beyond their performance, they offer the “pedigree” presence required for entry into the world’s most elite marinas. With expansive multi-deck layouts, stabilized cruising for total comfort, and world-class amenities like deck Jacuzzis and beach clubs, they are designed for those who demand uncompromising luxury and the freedom to see it all.

Exquisite Sailing Yachts: For the purist, nothing compares to the grace of a high-performance sailing yacht under full canvas. These vessels are the soul of Mediterranean yachting, offering an exhilarating connection to the elements as you navigate the legendary passages of the Aegean or the Ionian Seas. From modern, state-of-the-art sloops to magnificent classic schooners, a sailing yacht provides a sense of prestige and adventure that is unmatched. They are the perfect choice for those who view the journey itself as the destination, combining sleek, luxurious interiors with the timeless tradition of life under sail.

Catamarans: Ideal for the island-dense coast of Croatia or the consistent breezes of the Greek Cyclades, catamarans offer a unique blend of stability and social space. Their twin-hull design provides an expansive “floating villa” feel, with wide decks and bright, airy salons that are perfect for families and large groups. The shallow draft of a catamaran is a secret weapon in the Mediterranean, allowing you to tuck into secluded, turquoise lagoons—like those of the Maddalena Archipelago—where deeper-draft vessels cannot go. Whether under power or sail, they offer a relaxed, level cruising experience that makes every anchorage feel like a private estate.

Gulets: While traditionally born from the heritage of the Eastern Mediterranean (Turkey and Greece), luxury Gulets are now a beloved fixture in Croatia and Italy as well. These magnificent wooden motor-sailers offer a romantic, boutique-hotel aesthetic that is truly unique to the Med. Known for their immense, wide-open deck spaces and large ensuite cabins, Gulets are the ultimate platform for “slow travel” and multi-generational gatherings. With a focus on handcrafted detail and exceptional shoreside access, a Gulet charter is as much about the charm of the vessel as it is about the historic turquoise waters you explore.

Understanding Mediterranean Charter Rates

Unlike the all-inclusive nature of some Caribbean charters, Mediterranean yachting typically use MYBA or East Med Terms based on the yacht’s base, or operational location.

MYBA Terms (Western Mediterranean)
Commonly used in France, Italy, and Spain as well as Mega super yachts worldwide. The “plus all expenses” terms include the hire of the yacht and crew in the base rate. All other costs, including fuel, guest food & beverages, and berthing fees etc. are at cost and initially covered by an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), typically 30-35% of the charter fee.

East Med Terms
Often found in Greece and Turkey, these terms may vary slightly by vessel. While some yachts offer more inclusive options for meals or fuel, most luxury charters have shifted toward the MYBA standard to ensure a completely transparent and bespoke provisioning experience.

To note – VAT (Value Added Tax)
In European waters, VAT is applicable to the charter fee. The rate is determined by the country of embarkation and the itinerary’s route.
