LIFE ON A CHARTER YACHT - A STORY
Living the Dream Onboard a Private BVI Charter Yacht A Perfect Day in the Caribbean
Let us tell you about Bill and Sarah. They arrived onboard yesterday afternoon and had a light dinner on top deck after a day of traveling with many hours on a plane, whilst the yacht travelled south to Peter Island and Key Bay anchorage.
Now fully rested, they just woke up from the soft lull of the Caribbean Sea with golden sunlight streaming through their cabin porthole and ready to take on the day.
The tempting aroma of freshly brewed coffee and sizzling bacon quickly draws them out onto the aft deck. Their dedicated chef and stewardess present a vibrant breakfast spread. Although the bacon, cooked to absolute perfection, is tempting, Sarah opts for some fresh fruit from the luscious local fruit platter, has a wholewheat pancake a cheeky ‘pain au chocolate’. Bill decides a full English Breakfast will be his choice for today and enjoys it to the very last bite.
As they savor each delicious bite, the panoramic views of the tranquil, turquoise bay set the perfect scene.
The captain is joining them to chat about the program for the day. Knowing their desire for adventure, he suggests a morning snorkel at a vibrant reef near Treasure Cove at Norman Island, famous for it’s hidden caves and abundant marine life. Bill’s eyes light up, while Sarah is already reaching for her sunscreen.
As Bill and Sarah get ready, the yacht travels south to Norman Island and the crew prepares for the snorkel session.
Soon after, Bill and Sarah are geared up and gliding through the crystal-clear waters, exploring the vibrant underwater world. The ever-watchful First mate points out a curious turtle gracefully taking a breath of air and a couple of eagle rays gliding past further down.
After their invigorating snorkel, they return to the yacht and are greeted with fresh towels and Caribbean fruit punch (non-alcoholic, we might add). Bill and Sarah spend some time relaxing and sunbathing on the foredeck, soaking in the warm Caribbean sun and enjoying the gentle breeze as the crew stows all the toys away and raises the anchor for a Norman Island cruise exploring the coastlines, offering uninterrupted views of the USVI and Virgin Island Archipelago.
As midday approaches, the irresistible scent of lunch wafts from the galley. Their chef presents a delightful spread of freshly grilled local snapper, crisp salads bursting with flavor and homemade focaccia. They enjoy their meal al fresco on the top deck as the yacht gently hugs the coastlines and the leeward side of Peter Island to anchor at the island’s northeast corner overlooking Dead Chest National Park, Rhone Marine Park and Salt Island to the east.
The afternoon invites further relaxation and adventure; Bill opts to try his hand at paddle boarding, gracefully gliding across the calm waters, while Sarah settles into a shaded nook with a good book, enjoying the unparalleled peace.
The afternoon sun begins its gentle descent and the captain suggests a short dinghy trip ashore for a sundowner, while the chef and crew prepare for dinner.
After drinks and a stroll ashore, they return to the yacht and are met with the aroma of their evening meal drifting from the galley. As the sky begins a spectacular transformation, painting the clouds in fiery oranges, soft purples and deep pinks, Bill and Sarah feel a profound sense of peace. The chef, having worked magic in the galley, announces dinner will soon be served and they are seated to a beautifully dressed table with flowers, shells, rocks and beads as a centerpiece.
As the chef being busy in the galley making the finishing touches for the first course the stewardess presents their menu with options should they so prefer and serves a delicious amuse-bouche, a mini ‘cappuccino’ (a lobster bisque and creamed chive froth).
Over the next hour, Bill and Sarah are treated to a magnificent three-course dinner, with each dish a work of art. They savor a delicately seared tuna tartare, followed by a succulent, perfectly cooked beef tenderloin with a superb choice of accompaniments. All expertly paired with a crisp Sauvignon Blanc and full bodied Saint-Émilion recommended by their stewardess. The conversation flows freely, punctuated by the delicious food and the soothing sound of gentle waves and music coming from a local jump up ashore.
After the final course, a decadent chocolate lava cake exquisitely presented, the crew quietly clears the table. With a contented sigh, Bill and Sarah move to the foredeck. Here, on comfortable cushions under a blanket of stars, they lie back and gaze up at the vast, unpolluted night sky and the gentle Atlantic breeze.
The moon casts a silvery glow across the water and the only sounds are the soft hum of the night and the distant music from ashore. Bill takes Sarah’s hand, a silent acknowledgment that this moment, this profound sense of freedom and luxury, is beyond anything they could have imagined.
Later, they retreat to their comfortable cabin, where the rhythm of the sea them into a deep, peaceful sleep. They know that when they wake, a new day of adventure and relaxation awaits them and another perfect day is about to begin.
